Hi everyone. I am wanting to upgrade to rear disk brakes on my 99 XJ with the Chrysler 8.25 rear.
I know some people have used disks from the Grand Cherokees but I really want to go with newer parts. I'm looking at (2) different kits I found but am open to other kits you might recommend.
The two I found are:
The rwkhaussupply kit ($520 with shipping):
http://www.rwkhaussupply.com/magento...and-c8-25.html
and
The Rustys kit ($560 with shipping)
http://www.rustysoffroad.com/drum-to...ss-cables.html
Has anyone tried either kit - seems like a fairly easy install with only new brake cables and a mod to the ebrake cable needed.
Also, I read someone suggesting that I might want to also change the proportioning value but that may not be needed.
Any thoughts or help is greatly appreciated, the two kits are similar on price, I don't mind spending a little more for good quality parts and these are pretty important components since I will be using the Jeep for trips to the beach with interstate driving, etc.
Thanks!

You could probably buy all the grand cherokee brake parts new for that price or less. I left the stock proportioning valve in mine the brakes work fine. Also just food for thought my zj brake parts were 50 dollars from the junkyard plus 90 for pads and rotors (actually 70 I had 20 summit bucks), so 140 vs 500 I'll let you decide the modification to the backing plates is really easy if you have a Dremel or other rotary tool.

Simple kit, no fuss, works fantastic, and I haven't even done the prop valve yet.

The nice thing about ZJ, KJ or other OEM swaps is that all the parts are available at the local parts store if you need to fix something. Rotors, Caliper, Caliper Pins/boots, pads, parking brake pads, etc. just a quick trip to an parts store and you are back working again.

Thanks, that looks great! I am leaning toward that G2 kit, and the free shipping no sales tax through Amazon is pretty darn appealing also.
I edited this to also add,
I'm new here and if a supporting vendor offers this kit I am not opposed to paying a little more to support a vendor here. I don't want to step on anyone's toes with the Amazon low price thing and prefer to buy products from folks on places like this. I'll also gladly pay more for well made American parts although that's hard to find these days.
Just wanted to clarify.

That's the one I just put on, and it's great (looks like the same one that rwkhaus has, just a slightly different model # prefix). I know all about the ZJ and KJ junkyard DIY too, but it just isn't worth my time to run around trying to piece it all together in who knows what condition until I find the right model years and pull the parts, and then having to modify them.
