Drum to disk conversion
Hi everyone
Is the disk conversion kit from Crown automotive for 8.25 axle any good. What to replace old drum brakes to disk with new parts. I don't have the time to look in junk yard. This will be going on to a 94 xj se with DPG 2.5 lift , aftermarket front bumper with winch, aftermarket rear bumper, roof rack and 31 inch tires. Or if there is a list of parts I can get from parts store.
Thanks
Skp

I have no experience with that kit specifically, but I'm seeing it listed at $607 on Jegs. Way overpriced IMO. The only parts that you cannot readily buy new anywhere are the backing plates. I'd recommend finding some on eBay or something and get the rest of the parts from an auto parts store.
There are plenty of threads that cover this topic already. From memory of doing my KJ disc swap (don't quote or rely on this, do your own research), you'll need:
-Backing plates
-Backing plate hardware
-Calipers, pads, and hardware
-Rotors
-WJ soft lines (I think?))
-ZJ or Dana 30 wheel studs (can't remember which)
-Parking brake kit
-Longer parking brake cables (I bought the Crown cables designed to the swap)

Use the 05 and before KJ stuff. As for brake lines, use the KJ brake lines up to the splitter block, but cut the flares and toss the fittings. Use the flare nut fittings from your XJ lines and re-flare the lines. Everything else bolts right up. One of the parking brake cables is super long, but can be ziptied in a loop.
With the KJ stuff are all years good to go . mostly for backing plate.
Saw one post that use 06. And know that kJ's went to 07. Looking at parts from pick and pulls and have found a few but different years.

I can't remember what it was about the 06+ Liberty stuff that made things more difficult. Maybe it was the brake lines? I did mine a few years back and sat in a yard that had an 03, an 07, and an XJ all side by side. The most straightforward swap was, for sure, the 03.
I grabbed all the stuff needed for $65 from a pull-a-part. Rotors, calipers, lines, e-brake cables, backing plates, and hardware.
The rear lug studs will be a little short though. I used '04 Rubicon studs.
