driveline measurement for SYE
Since I drive a 5-speed truck, this has not really been a necessity for my lift height but I needed to do it before something stupid happened and my trans was profusely leaking anyways. Now, before you run off with a, "install it and measure bro"; this isn't that kind of thread. I ordered my new driveshaft before ever touching a bolt on my truck. I don't get why everyone makes this into such a big deal. Just measure for the offset of the new tail housing and flange and call out a length. What do ya know, I installed it this Sunday and it fit just as expected. For reference, I installed a standard Advance Adapter's kit for the 231 - the flange sits 7 1/8" off the back of the 231 case. My truck sits at 4.5-5" and called for 34.5" (AX15 transmission/C8.25).
For a driveline, go nowhere other than Tom Woods (this goes without saying to most). You can't beat the price and they clearly know what they're doing. I think from order to doorstep took all of 4-5days. That's Utah to Georgia btw. Here's what you get for $309, I don't know how they turn them around so fast.
...on another subject, I figured out why my 4WD selector always felt like *****. My guess is that some service tech (or would be) mistook the plunger/spring cap bolt for the case drain and couldn't figure out the assembly order when it all came out with the case oil. If your 231 has selector holding issues, it might be worth a look. Feels MUCH more positive now.
