A sye eliminates that and use double cardan driveshaft which is what front one uses.

also, are you running an SYE? because i'm pretty sure you need one to use a front driveshaft in the rear. by the way, if you are unsure about your front shaft, google image search cherokee front driveshaft and you will see.
i have another question, why not just keep your rear shaft, why won't it work
I'm going to use a SYE when I lift it.
Pretty much what he said, the front drive shaft is a little longer than the rear so instead of paying $200 for a Tom Woods or other aftermarket shaft you can just use a front to save money

i know, i have an sye and i run a front driveshaft in the rear, but you hadn't mentioned anything about an SYE in your posts. so do you understand that there are 3 u joints in the front drive shaft. also, what SYE are you going with

No problem. Just trying to help out. We all learn something new everyday. Part of the fun in owning and wrenching on your own vehicle.

Is there any specific brand of u joints that are better than others? I know people say not to cheap out on them. I was looking at Moog

No doubt! I never dreamed I'd be into wrenching, being an IT guy and all. but since computers are my hobby for a living, i needed a new hobby for my off time...and now i'm getting my own garage and have a million tools i want to get, including an air compressor....one fine day!

Same here, I'm starting to build up my collection of tools, a garage would be nice but I guess the driveway will do for now

Ujoint retainer (u bolts) part number 81004. Can get them in HELP section at autozone. I think it says ford on the pack. Then just drill out the yoke and install

As long as it's a double cardan out of an automatic 4.0 4x4 you should be good
