Default Doorless problem

Well I was dumb enough to think I was going to drive with no doors so I bought the pins and drilled the hinges to the larger size. Now with doors on [99.9% of the time] it seems the door falls as I am opening it. So I pretty much have lift the door a little to close it. I'm guessing by the looks of it I drilled the top hole at an angle and there is some play.

What are my options here? I'm guessing drilling to a larger size or possibly welding the correct size washer on the bottom of the hinge? Any ideas because it's driving me nuts .....

I still don't understand the no door option. I mean to some it may look cool but from what I understand with the XJ being uni-body that door is actually serving a structual reinforcement. Taking it off only weakens your body. But what do I know....I just got my XJ like 2 weeks ago and have not even wrenched on it yet.

Okay so if your going to tube it and then rock crawl with it perhaps that would be why...

On another note good luck fixing it.

OP post pics of your hinges. There are 2 styles of hinge.

One looks like this:

The other, like this:

The top style lends itself to the issue you're having. The bottom one does not. If you have the top style, only way to get it back to factory is get new hinges, replace, and no doors are not an option anymore.

Where did you get your instructions for going doorless, as I have not heard of drilling the holes bigger for either style, I have some links from the write-up section here, neither describes drilling the holes bigger...

I have the bottom style hinge. Zero issues with this hinge setup. Drops in just like a Wrangler. Plus I did door plugs, so just unplug, lift out, and go, come home, drop in and plug, that's it. Here's a link to door plugs if you want...

Good luck.

One more thing, go check out the write-up section here on the site, tons of good info there. Things that have been contributed by long time members, and are proven to work.

One of the reasons I don't do the social media thing, is there's a LOT of uninformed people out there...very easy to get bad info. We try to keep this down to a minimum here on the site. CF prides itself for being the place to go for quality information...stock or modified.

Also, realize when you start modding...it may not be the same as before, just the nature of the beast.

I've never seen that site before, and I don't like it. Go ahead and look through those links that were posted for you

Of course I didn't pay 60$ hahaha I got them as part of a trade package bc the person didn't want to do the work involved. So basically they were thrown in as part of the deal.

Either way what's done is done so I'm looking through the links now and the hinges are drilled already and they are not much help.

Guess I'll get creative or I'll have the weld in new hinges, or just deal with it.

That is the direct link with a video of directions which includes drilling. Now that I see the other links it seems stupid to drill anything but I didn't foresee a problem.

Live and learn. You seem to have a good attitude about it

Glad you didn't pay that...because that's straight robbery. Guy ought to be ashamed of himself, LOL

Get some round stock and play around with it...if you have access to a welder, I'm sure you could come up with something better fairly easily.

Yeah, I understand, but this is why you need to research mods like this and get several points of view, and make an educated decision...live and learn. Let us know how it works out for you.
