As far a legality, everyone i'e ever talked to here in Utah says its legal here...however, I drove around doorless for a few months with no issues, but one day I was sitting in the walmart parking lot and a highway patrolman walked up to me and said, "If i caught you driving this with no doors, you would be walking home" I asked why, he said "Unless the manufacturer designed the part to be removable for use on the road, it is illegal, that includes truck tailgates and especially doors." So I asked him about tube doors, he shot that down also.. I asked him a bunch of questions and came to the conclusion that I better put my doors on because it woulda got impounded in a heartbeat... then later, in MOAB!! my buddy got stopped by a local policeman and gave him a nice big ticket for driving around with no doors..he said the only reason he didnt get impounded was because he had the doors (2 door) in the back haha. But that's just UTAH, and i know other states are a lot more lenient with stuff like that...anyway that's my 2 cents worth of junk!

If only it were that easy to tell a cop to ef off haha. My uncle is chief of police in salt lake city, i asked him about this..he said it was illegal, however, like the other dude said, a roll bar or cage..and possibly tube doors would save it from being impounded... but you would still get a fix it ticket most likely. I personally don't think every cop in Utah would impound it or even ticket someone for it, but obviously cops are trained to "protect" people, and they see it as a safety issue... Like i said before though, every state has different laws.. I've had a cop pull out a tape measure and measure how tall my Jeep was from the ground to the rockers.. Then he ticketed me for my mud flaps not covering 50% of the tire..other states don't give a damn about that stuff..

Doesn't make sense. Doors aren't welded in and can be easily removed. By the troopers logic, it is legal.
Don't wranglers require some hardware to be removed for their doors to come off yet it is legal for wranglers to drive doorless. I think they're just nitpicking and puffing out their chests. Troopers/Sheriffs tend to do that because they have nothing better to do.

I vaguely remember something about the number of inches from the floor to the top of the door frame lip protecting your feet/legs..something dumb like that that Wranglers have 6" and cherokees have 4"..idk..sounds retarded to me haha

I'd ask him for a statue next time. If he can't produce one then smile and say see ya. I can't imagine a jeep with no door is any more dangerous that a motorcycle with no protection whatsoever..lol

It's a complete myth that doors add to the rigidity of the body. They are connected by two points - the hinges and the latch. If the doors being closed somehow kept the body from twisting, your doors would be wedged shut after your first trip offroad.
Stop perpetuating this myth. It's simply not true.
