Don't smack me - lowering a 96 XJ?
So don't beat me up over this. I love 4x4s and have three 4x4 trucks at home and an 89 XJ 4x4 sitting in my business. I came across a 96 2wd 2-door XJ with the 4.0L and AX15 5-spd that I am picking up Tuesday for a song.
Now, along with 4x4 stuff I also like to work on musclecars, hot rods, things that go fast or just look cool. I saw this 2wd XJ and had a vision for something oddball. I was thinking of taking it, slamming it and doing some kind of flat paint job with some 18" steel wheels on it.
Hey, it is 2wd so not like I'm making a 4x4 useless. Plus it would be different and kinda cool.
What do you guys think? Does anyone make lowering springs for these Jeeps?

tub the rear, get some fat tires. I think it would be sweet. not sure on a lowering spring.. call me crazy, but what if you got a heavy duty lift spring and cut it way down and get short shocks? I know its not ideal.. but it would work.. For the rear do a spring under..

That's kid of what I was thinking. Spring under in the rear and maybe cut the fronts and see how it feels. Probably will handle like an elephant on roller skates anyway but would look cool. Wonder how far I can tub the rear, might go with a minitub to try and keep the interior looking stock.

I've thought about doing the same thing.I've found a 4 banger, auto. & figured it would be ALOT better on gas if it was lowered & would be different.

I remember seeing this, he's got a pic of himself in the drivers seat reaching out the window touching the ground lol. He did a custom tube frame on it too.

Well, I don't want to slam it all the way to the ground. Don't want to deal with airbags or anything, at that point I'd have more in it than I can get back out of it.
I'm going to look in to doing the same setup as that blue one, I wonder if I can get lower with the front since mine would be 2wd and that one is 4wd.
I'm thinking of painting it flat OD green with some white stars, throw some 18" stamped steel Charger wheels on it, lower it down. Budget resto/rod deal and have something cool looking and eye catching.
