Default Does a 4.5" lift mean a new drive shaft? Does the SYE help?

I'm lifting my XJ, it has the NP231 T-case.
Questions are;
Will I need a new/custom d-shaft if I lift it 4.5"?
Won't adding an SYE to the T-case extend the u-joint coupling out 4" more or less, making the distance between the t-case and the rear diff shorter, therefore requiring a shorter d-shaft?
And would I still need a new d-shaft if I put the SYE on it taking into account the lift?
I know I know, all setups are different but I was just hoping for a general idea of what to expect.
Thanks!

You only use an SYE with a custom driveshaft.

With 4.5" you MIGHT not need an sye/dshaft (if youre lucky), but more than likely, you will need them both.

I'm up about 4.5" and using a stock front drive shaft from an auto trans XJ. The auto trans shaft is a little longer. I've heard anything over 4.5" and you will need a custom shaft, as it will need to be longer, but up to 4.5" the stock front drive shaft should be fine. I got mine from a junkyard for $20 and rebuilt the cardan joint and replaced all the ujoints before bolting it up.

if you get the HnT one from IRO you can use a front dshaft with it. they sell refurbed ones for 100 (i think) and the HnT itself is 120 (i think). of course, you can just get a front dshaft from the local jy.

right now i have 4.5 approx lift....and i dont have one. i get no vibrations from the driveline right now. when its running i dont get much either.

i never said "custom" when i was saying he needs a driveshaft. i only said custom in saying that "you dont use custom dshafts without syes"

i for one, run a stock front driveshaft with my SYE, it works well.

What brand and kit do you use for yours? the kit i am looking at will cost me about 500 just for parts. If i can get a SYE that doesn't require a new d-shaft that would be the way i would go.

You guys are all talking about going to the Junk Yard and grabbing a used shaft.. I feel dumb asking this but, wouldn't that be like just getting the same thing i have on there now? Or is there a specific year/model that has the drive shaft i need that will work on my vehicle?

what they mean is replacing your rear driveline with a front driveline out of a xj with auto transmission. but thats only if you have a sye installed already, i am in the process of putting a 4.5 inch lift on and im keeping my fingers crossed that i dont have to do a sye
