So does this apply to all xj or 96 and older. Sorry for ignorance I'm new to modding these straight 6s

96 and under take the "703" injectors. 97-01 take "784" injectors.

I just did this two weeks ago. I've gained quicker start up, smoother idle, better throttle response, and I usually got around 125 miles at half tank, this week I'm at 160 miles at half tank. Same driving conditions, same gas station, same octane. I've also stopped getting the random misfire on start up issue I was having.

I also had that same issue at startup. I think it was a leaky factory injector. 703 upgrade also cured it

Actually, the 87 to 90s like the 746 injectors the best.

So I've read only early 90s takes the 703's what about late 90 s...I have a 98...4.0 L...would I use the same?

NO, that is incorrect. A '98 requires the 703 injectors. 784 is only 99+, as referenced in the chart.
