Disc Brakes On A XJ D44?
Well just picked up a D44. Currently in the process of rebuilding it. (Rear XJ D44)
The drum brakes that came on it were non existent. Pulled the drum off and it was literally stripped (i bought it knowing this). Only the wheel cylinder was there. Instead of buying all new drum parts i figured i'd swap it to discs.
I have ZJ backing plates at my house, but the bolt patterns don't line up. Is there a simple way to fix this problem? Should i just fill the ZJ backing plate holes with weld and then redrill the holes to match the D44 bolt pattern, or is there an easier method?
Do i need anything else to do this conversion? I heard i needed a hub spacer or something like that to make something right. I'm not sure though.

Use 03-06 Rubicon retainers, they have the space formed in already.
You'll need to weld the holes closed and re-drill to match your D44.
Backing plates from a D35 can be used but you'll need to open up the center for seal clearance. Two of the mounting holes will need to be re-drilled and the other 2 will need to be opened up a bit.

You have a link to the retainer? Honestly, i have no clue what a retainer is, why i need it, or what it does.
That's what i thought. Thanks for clearing it up for me.
These backing plates are from a 96 ZJ. Pulled from a D35. The axle seal on a 44 is on the axle shaft itself correct? There aren't any internals seals like on the 8.25, correct?

So i replace the retainer on my XJ shaft with the retainer from the JK?
Oh, and my other question. The 8.25 has a brake tee (i don't know the exact name of it) that both the calipers run to and then one line connects them both to the rest of the brake system.
My 44 doesn't have this tee. Do i need to buy one?
