So I scored myself an 8.25 with a locker already in it. After having to deal with drum brakes once, and breaking almost every piece, i decided never again and wanted to convert to disc. When i got the axle, it came with backing plates for discs already. Im unsure what they came off of, but i picked up some new calipers, rotors, pads and e-brake pads for the project. The parts were for a 95zj. Here's my conundrum.
....they don't line up at all. Am I missing something?
as a side not the backing plates don't slide right on the axle either. I figured after doing some research before hand i might need to grind the hole a little.
I did the conversion using the Liberty parts. Your calipers don't look right, at least from what mine were. The floating pin/bushings bolted directly to the backing plate bosses and the tabs on the brake pads rested on the ears of the backing plate. The backing plates look correct though.
At 1:45 he removes the caliper. 8:35 reinstalled it. Only thing to add is make sure you match the pads up. There are tabs that engage in the backing plate. One end has a tab missing. Make sure it goes in last.
Jeep Grand Cherokee Rear Brakes:
I see what your saying. OP are you trying to thread the gold bolt into the backing plate? That is what should mount the caliper to the backing plate, and another like it in the other slider. The holes that show in the picture that are closer together are used to locate the brake pad on that side.
