Default Disc brake backspace question

I'm planning to convert the rear brakes to discs on my 99 XJ Sport here in the near future. Without debating the pros and cons of that, I need advice on what backspace to use on the wheels. I am planning to get new 15"x8" soft 8's. The new tires will be 31's on a planned 3" lift. I haven't done the work yet, I'm just in the planning stage and I want to take advantage of the deals this week. The guy at the shop said he could order the wheels with what would come out to be 3.5" backspace. I was thinking closer to 4.5" would be better. I just want to clear the discs while not causing unnecessary rubbing on the fenders of course. What do you think?

I prefer a 3.75" BS.

If you are using Liberty or ZJ brakes, the back space really doesn't matter. But if you are going to 12" discs in the rear and use something like a WJ set up from Tereflex then the less back space, the better

I am using Liberty brakes. I got them from the junkyard thinking they should fit my Chrysler 8.25 without modification. So I can pretty much run anything between 3.5 and stock with no problem?

Thanks for the help! I can get a pretty good deal this week but I have to make a decision on the setup.

Yeap. Direct bolt on. You can run 14 inch wheels with them.
