I have a 2000 xj that I am building and installing a 1994 4.0L engine into. I was just curious if the torque specs would be the same for both engines. I have the factory service manual which has just about every torque spec for every tiny bolt you could ever want in it. However, I just don't have anything to cross reference it against for the 1994. Anyone know where I could find that info?

 

which bolts exactly do you need torque specs for, i got the 93 and 95 service manuals and could look at them for you

 

They are largely the same.

There is only one head bolt that gets less torque cause it pertrudes into the water jacket. That would be the front right one.

 

I found out that my Haynes manual covers all the years. So I am all set. Thanks guys!

 

You're welcome and BTW, be sure to use hi temp thread sealant on the afore mentioned bolt.

Not strictly necessary - I have used RTV Black, RTV Copper, plumbers' PTFE pipe dope, and Loctite PST on that screw at various times - always with good results.

Considering the end of the screw is in the water jacket, it doesn't really get as hot as you might think. The FSM specifies LocTite PST - which is a relatively low-temp sealant.

 

I've used RTV myself. I just pass on what the specs called for. The tube says Hi Temp, but you and I both know its nothing more than thread dope. Lol
