Is there any advantage to getting an HD diff cover over just getting the diff skids?

Why would you want a cage? I don't understand any benefit to one opposed to a full, and much stronger cover.

Might can see it here, sure am glad I have a full cover.

I was looking towards something along the lines of the rusty's diff skid not a cage type one

The heavy duty covers add more rigidity to the diff case and what happens if you smack a rock just above the skid.
