I'm not really sure what makes the new ones shift. Someone erode may be able to shed more light on how they are controlled.

Yeah that would present a problem since the tps is non existent on the diesel. Im thinking it would be easier still to pick up an older tranny. the tranny issue really isnt a big thing since you can always throw the old on in there. I would be more worried a bout fabbing up motor mounts.

Well if I do throw an older tranny in there, would I only have to regear?

You might not have to. I'm but sure what size tires your running but that may be enough.

Really gearing is a non issue sure to ask the available ratios. start by locating engine then set about mounting it up. The rest is easy.

Now what about ac and the brake booster and power steering? Doesn't the brake booster and ac need a vaccum?

AC.doesn't its basicly plumbing. same with the power steering. Just make sure the engine you get has them both and get the hose ends that attatch to the pump and attatch the brake booster to the vacuum pump on the aaz motor.and you will need to run electric cooling fans and use a ford glow plug relay setup its basicly a stand alone system.just needs keyed power.

you can run a Toyota diesel in your rig with your aw4 auto.

you need the bellhousing from a 4cyl auto 4 runner wiht a 22re in it. that makes it a bolt up.

you use a Toyota fly wheel and starter and that's all a bolt on items as well. the aw4 is the same as the Toyota a340 .

then your just down to motor mounts. and some wire work.

the engine you wanna look for is a 2.0 LTE diesel . it makes 210 ftlbs @ 2000 and 160 hp @ 4000. its can crank out a bit more than that with a bit more boost. it wont hurt it any.

the engine is very reliable and you don't have to buy a trans adapter.
i', fitting a aw4 to my jeep this weekend to get started on my diesel swap . the Toyota is what will be under my hood . its common rail and electronically injected so its a responsive little disel
