Seems like alot of work for little benefit.

Good luck. I would have chosen a better motor, but to each his own.

A better engine than a 4BT? What would you suggest is a better engine? 130hp and almost 400lbft! That's a huge torque boost and that's in a stock setting. I'm guessing you mean better as far as a better engine for fitment in a Cherokee because there probably aren't too many engines as versatile and efficient or as long lasting as a 4BT. Also they are relly cheap to add ALOT of power. I must be missing something here...

My friend averages 25-26mpg commuting in his 4bt tj on 33s, 5spd, and 3.73s.

Read the entire thread. I wasnt talking about the 4bt, I was talking about the Benz motor that was alao suggested.

I questioned that motor because the person who suggested it says it has the same hp/tq numbers the 4.0 makes.

Which seems like alot of work for the ability to use cheap fuel.

OP, head on over to 4btswaps.com. Tons of info there and some handy resources. In terms if beefing up the XJ, the 4BT is only 250lbs heavier than the 4.0. How many people run that with loaded winch bumpers? Lol

Aside from enough clearance from lift and getting creative with the intercooler some frame stiffeners and HD springs are in order. Beefing up the drive train you might want to look at as if you pop the clutch with that torquey beast you'll probably break something.

Well its not like many XJs on this site aren't hobby vehicles, lol. OM617 sounds like an easier swap than the 4BT for cheap fuel and better economy. Of course how long it takes to break even is pretty variable and might not make sense for some people. Depending on the condition of your 4.0, a diesel would make a great replacement for a blown one, or maybe you get a good deal on the Mercedes and sell your 4.0.

Hell, I'd do it for the sound! If a Detroit could fit in I'd sell everything else I own lol

Ok. Read the entire thread. I can see how I missed the part about you talking about an engine when you didn't specify. That's probably why I asked (thats what that silly looking piece of punctuation means at the end of my first sentence.) if that was the engine you were talking about. I apologize for not being able to read your mind. Simple question, di**head answer. Thanks. If thats how the moderators are here I will not be purchasing the upgraded membership.

Really? Your upset about that? Wow.

I mean, not even the guy who startes the thread said what motor he has. And I quoted the guy who suggested the Benz motor the when he suggested it.

If your not going to read the entire thread and your just gonna jump on me dont expect anyone to give you any more respect than you gave

We are family friendly here, not people who treat you like your a princess.

Gotta have a backbone.

Seems like someone needs to learn to get some thicker skin Go over to pirate or any other forum really and get used to the attitude there, then you can come back and see how flame free you have it at CF. If you cant handle whats thrown at you here.. then your definitely not prepared to handle anything else on the interwebz

And as far as the 4bt or any other diesel swap goes... Over the years theres been so many threads about diesel swaps that its not even funny, and so far ive yet to see one that actually went through with it.. And as far as a mercedes diesel goes.. If they make them anything like they make their other early junk, then i'd stay away.
