Hi All,
I have my heart set on Truetrac LSDs to go in both diffs of my XJ. They are ideal I think for how I use my truck:
Some moderate off-road (No rock-crawling etc), it's my only car and used to drive a lot of miles on motorways. I want it to be really good in the snow and the British version of bad conditions (mild by US standards).
Anyway, I have searched and searched and whilst I can find lots of suppliers (from the USA - no chance of a supplier in Britain), I can't find what I need.
My Jeep is a 1998 XJ 4.0 auto Ltd RHD, It has a Dana 30 high-pinion front and a Dana 35 rear. Ratio is 3.55 and I have no need or desire to change the ratio. The gear rings are both secured to the carriers with just 8 bolts (all the pictures on the internet seem to have 10 or 12 bolt rings.
Someone, I hope, will be able to say "yeah, it's part numbers ......." or point me to a supplier with the right info.
Thank ye from ye olde worlde...

First off " the British version of bad conditions (mild by US standards)."?!?! It's suppose to be winter here in WV. 73*F right now.

73F would be good here in summer!
Thanks for your reply, very useful.
I have researched further and something wasn't adding up, so I've taken the diff cover off the Dana 30 at the front of my Jeep and it has 10 bolts, not 8 like the Dana 35 at the back.
I've also got my head around the 'case break' thing and found that whilst the rear is a 3.55, the front is probably 3.54, which are apparently much the same thing. Then one diff is a '3.54 and lower' and the other is a '3.54 and higher'.
Phew! I think I know which ones I need now.
Thanks mate, you've been a massive help!

I am one of the crazies who has installed a Detriot Truetrac in my rear D35 (3:55). I dont run over 31'' tires and have a good sense of throttle control. My XJ is a daily driver and weekend adventure buggy. Truetrac is a very useful upgrade for light offroading, or in my case heavy Maine winters.
You may get some telling you not to bother installing at Truetrac in a D35; I say go for it. The increased traction is highly noted.

Pretty much for all the reasons above and to maintain factory I am thinking about this:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/152807984098
Would much rather just find a whole 8.25 355 Factory Limited Slip Rear and just put it in. After the rear disc mod of course.

Thanks for the link, I went with the Truetrac as it is seems to be 'maintenance free', not needing additives in the oil and with no plates to wear out. Finding used parts in the UK is not easy, all the best bits go very quickly. Any hint of a Cherokee being parted out over here is like a fresh dead antelope to vultures..

That's surprising what you said about the rarity of XJs being parted out. Here, they are a bountiful and folks destroy them in mud runs and tough truck challenges. Sad really, eventually they'll be extinct.
I've had six XJs, and cannot get enough of them.

Good call on the Truetracs. I've had Trac-loc in my LJ, it also useful but has clutches that can be prone to wear and possible failure.

No, he's saying that XJ parts are rare and good parts go quickly. I said I found that surprising that XJ parts are so rare over there. It was more of an idea opener as I lead into the fact that XJ parts are more prevalent in the US.

I'm reading it differrently hahah...to me the parted out xj goes fast there, not that its rare. To my inderstanding, ive heard xjs are really popular over there. My cousins friend mived out there and hes told me about the craze haha
TruTracs are great I have them in my Jeeps.
DO NOT USE SYNTHETIC GEAR OIL WITH TRUETRAC DIFF. Use regular gear oil.
The 'screw' drive works by creating friction and the synthetic oil will limit this.

The problem with parts is that they cost a fortune to ship from the US to UK and then there's customs charges etc on top. Some of the major US parts sites won't ship abroad at all. We're pretty much limited to pattern parts and second hand. The dealers are all Fiat and they were terrible when I actually had a Fiat. Show them a Jeep out of warranty and they just look at you like you dropped in from Alpha Centauri and demanded to see their leader.
Anyway, I've been lusting after TruTracs in my Jeep for ages. @Thruxton - where did you get them from in the end?

The Wrangler is loved but prices for 4-door ones are still strong. The 'Off-road crowd' are predominantly LandRover too.
Seeing an XJ here is not a daily thing, but yes, we do love them. I certainly love mine..
