Death Wobble

Default Death Wobble

I have a DW and have replaced ball joints tie rods lower control arm bushings track bar tie rod and new bushing but still have movement in bushing on axle side. Tires been balanced. Any body have some advise? Thx.

I have a 92 XJ lock right locker, 5.5 inch short arm lift, rock sliders, upgraded injectors, cold air intake and 32 inch falkins

The track bar itself may be fine, but the point in the frame or on the axle might be worn out. On the axle, check that the holes are not elongated. On the frame, check that the bracket the bar mounts on isn't loose or have the hole elongated.

If you are using a stock sized track bar with your lift, your front axle will be offcenter. You will need a longer/adjustable track bar or relocate the holes on the axle to move the track bar mount point over a bit.

Make sure they didn't just align the truck to stock specs. Larger tires than stock causes more toe, so if the machine doesn't know that, your alignment can be incorrect.

X2 on checking the frame side mount being loose and the axle side bracket bolt hole being wallowed out.

Thx Crazy 8, I have a rough country adjustable track arm mounting hole is fine. I just replaced the bushing in track bar but still have movement in bushing.

Your using the stock bracket on the axle side? If so, make sure it's tightened all the way. A buddy always had issues with the stock bracket/tie rod end of the track bar coming lose. He had rough country also.

Do you have any feathering or uneven wear on your tires? That'll tell ya if your alignment is still off. You could probably see it too

If everything is right there will be no death wobble. So if your jeep is shaking so violent you can't continue on down the road (death wobble) and everything is tight except the track bar. I would ditch the track bar. But i would be 100% sure first.

A couple of months after getting my xj it got a bad case of death wobble. Sure enough it was the track bar. Best of luck to you!

If the bushing is moving at the axle, the mount would likely be walled out or the replacement bushing is no good. There is a lot of crap rubber out there these days. The better track bar bushings at the axle are practically more steel than rubber. They have about 1/8" of rubber, a steel ring, and another 1/8" of rubber. How are your upper control arms and axle bushings? You can measure the toe-in with a tape measure. At 5.5" your factory control arms are not long enough for proper castor. You'd need an extra 1" longer lower control arm and 3/8" on the upper. The 3/8" probably isn't significant enough to warrant replacement. Did you tighten the bushings with vehicle weight on the tires - no floor jacks, jack stands supporting the vehicle?

I tightened it with jeep on its wheels. It's high enough I don't need to lift it. Upper arms are stock bottom are not. Just put in new lower arm bushings too. The TB bushing is a mostly rubber replacement from rough country. I just orderd a polyurethane bushing, see if that's better or not.
