Default Dana 44 swap

I have a 2000 cherokee sport. I have access to a dana 44 rear end. Not sure of the year, but it comes out of a 97 or newer cherokee. How easy of a swap is it to install it in my rig? Another question I have is... is it worth swapping? My truck has 57,000 miles on it. Should I just leave it alone?

If it came out of a 97 it was a Grand Cherokee and it's a D44a not a D44. It has c-clip axles, almost no aftermarket support and an aluminum center section. Considered by most to be junk and barely stronger than a D35. It also has 4 link brackets not leaf perches so you'd have to remove all the old mounts and weld on new ones.

It comes out of a 97 or newer cherokee... not grand cherokee. Will it match right up to my rig? Is it worth swapping? My truck only has 57,000 on it.

It comes out of a 97+ cherokee and you wonder if it will fit your 97+ cherokee?

Edit: oh i see, your asking if its worth it. If you have a c8.35 rear end then i would say no, its not worth it. Both axles are about the same

I'm confused. The 44 is coming out of a 97 or newer xj? Is it one that someone had swapped in? If your xj currently has a 8.25 rear end in it, then I don't think it is really worth the swap. A 29 spline 8.25 is only slightly weaker than the dana 44. As stated above.

Must have been swapped because a D44 wasn't available in a 97 or newer cherokee.

Ok... I thought that anything with the tow package had a 44. Maybe I'm wrong. Please correct me if I am. And as far as what I have... my truck is a 2000 with no tow package. So could anyone tell me what I have?

If you have ABS then d35, no abs then c8.25. Tow package is just a hitch and wiring harness, MAYBE different gears
