Default Dana 44 question

The person that owned my Jeep before me had a dana 44 installed in the back and added 456 gears front and rear.

My question is what do you guys suggest to do for a posi ? Do i need to count the splines first?

what do you mean posi ? do you want a limited slip for the d44? if so you will need a LS carrier for the d44 . i would suggest a locker for it instead.

Posi-traction is a GM LSD, and it only works in GM products. As stated above a locker is the best way to go if you plan on wheeling it.

x2 go with a locker, your dana 44 will be 30 spline.

I would agree and go with a locker but they DO make a l.s.d for just about any make of rear diffs, not just gm

Go with a lunchbox (Aussie or Spartan) locker. It just replaces the spider gears. A Trac-Loc (or Limited slip) would require you to replace the carrier. Which would be silly since there has already been a re-gear done.

Posi-traction is a GM trade marked name! It is GMs name for their LSD differentials, just figured that maybe the OP didn't know that, and he asked about a Posi for his Dana 44 not a LSD. I didn't say anything about not being able to get a LSD for any axle as a LSD can be found for just about every axle out there.
