Default Dana 44/60 brake questions.

Ok so im looking to get a jeep with the 44/60 swap...and the guy said the brakes are weak...said that the stock brake booster wasn't strong enough for the bigger axles...also said he thought you could swap a booster from a 70's ford into it...just want to get some info on this and what exactly i need to do...thanks.

I know a kid on this very forum who swapped fullwidth 44 and 60 axles into his XJ. He put a master cylinder out of a 2001 1 ton Dodge truck into his Jeep and the brakes work like a champ!! You buddy is absolutely right. The OEM master cylinder in an XJ doesn't have the fluid volume for the bigger brakes on the bigger axles.

Yes the master cylinder out of the 1 ton Dodge does bolt directly in but you will have to make a spacer cuz your Jeeps push rod is a little short.

PM 98CherokeeSport if you have any other questions. He has gone through all the trials and tribulations of putting 1 ton axles in an XJ.

What MC you want will depend on the year of your XJ. The earlier models have a different booster than the newer XJs. If you have an earlier XJ you can swap on a later booster or thier are MCs that will bolt on to the earlier booster.

I used the dodge 1 ton MC on my 98. You will need to extend the pushrod, this thread shows you how.

I would just go to Autozone and buy this, its what i used. Should bolt on a 99 just the same, not making any guarantees though.

Not sure if I just got lucky but I'm running a stock ABS MC with the fuses out and 38s on my 44/60 combo and it stops on a dime.

I've heard lots of people say that. My stock MC stopped me just fine but I didn't like how soft the pedal felt.
