I agree, I've seen more than one snap a shaft on 35s- but they're always stock shafts. But a built 60 with Chromos or longfields? It's gonna take a lot to snap those. Cant saying it can't be done, but like you said, there's no comparison between that and the d35.

Anything can be broken with enough abuse even rockwells. 
I believe some of us would rather take pride in not snapping something, on our DD rigs so we can get home at the end of the day.
That being said I would feel a wee bit safer knowing that I had a D44 or ford 8.8 under me (future plan)
The whole idea of losing a tire on the trail 20 miles from anything on a D35 scares me..........

Well, what about the 1992 YJ that came with dana 35 and trac loc mounted in with I think can be stock wheel axles?
I just drove one and the owner told me that never has broke an axle, using 31's MT
