2000 Jeep XJ Sport 4.0

Hi, currently I have stock 3.55 gears Dana 35/30 combo. Going 33" BFG AT KO and 4.56 gears with lockers.

Will I need to buy new carriers as well? If so, what is the best option price wise?

Thank you

Will a wrangler rear end work? So I can use the std carrier that is in the Chrysler?

Thank you.

A wrangler what? A Wrangler only came with a 35 or 44 and they would need new mounts. You'd need to do shock mounts and leaf perches. And TJ's came with LP 30's which you don't want.

Don't waste money on the 35. I have one and swapping eventually.

I guess I should have asked what vehicles to look out for in the junk yard to pull a 8.25 Chrysler from.

First question... Since you have a 2000...

Do you have ABS?
No .... You have an 8.25 already, the current carrier will work for 4.56 gearing.
yes .... Ditch the D35 and swap all brake hardware to the 8.25 you go out and find.

The D30 you currently have is an Lp D30 so decide now how far you want to go lift wise.
Under 4" .... You will need a new 3.73 up carrier to reread your current axle.

Over 4" .... Go find an Hp D30 from an earlier Cherokee
Pre 92 - get one from a limited so it will be single piece axle shafts,
or any 92 and newer to early 99 axle.
Get 3.73 up carrier and regear that (unless you happen to find a 4cyl axle).
Swap knuckles (optional but makes keeping ABS easy) and shafts from your current axle ... Then bolt it in.

Yes, I have ABS. With the junk they have locally at the pull my part, I may just go Ford 8.8

I've got an 01, so ABS, yep you have the 35. Check Craig's list. I found my HP30 on craigslist for $125. My 8.25 I got from a buddy $125. 4.56 gears are great for 33-35's, I'm running 35 MTR's and it is nice. All you gonna need for the 8.25 swap are new U bolts & plates. While you're at it swap in disks brakes.

Only 2 issues with the 8.8, big differential (less ground clearance), & you'll have to buy & weld on leaf perches & shock mounts. Pros are possible disks, & may have an LSD. If you are planning on tossing in a locker (lunchbox type) you'll need a new carrier I believe.

No, no, and no. You're wrong. Its like an inch of clearance and its well worth what you're getting back. The 8.8 is a great swap and better than an 8.25. You have to weld on new perches and new shock mounts but thats it. It is well worth the swap. You also don't need a new carrier.

Well, I decided to get a 8.25, swap to discs and a HP30.

Lock em with Spartans
gear em with 4.56
tweak my lift with some better RE control arms and springs
throw on some 33" BFG KO's and call it a day

Might install that hack n tap I have and new drive shaft
and that should do it.

Pretty close to where I ended up. You won't be disappointed with that setup. 4.56 with 33's was great.

All I have to do is shim the rear & rebuild my front DS. When you get your axles, I'd recommend getting them sandblasted & prime/paint. Replace all bearings, & bushings.

My XJ rides 100x better than before. Good luck & let me know if you have any questions.

Frank won't steer you wrong either, I've been buying most of my stuff from him. 2 thumbs up to Serious Service & parts show up within days...

Well you cannot argue with those prices. I will build the axles on the bench and install everything at once. Once I get the axles in, I will give you a shout. I might need some ball joints/ u-joints and so forth as well.

Thank you
