Did you actually break the shafts or did the Ujoints break and take out the shafts? Also were you using CroMo joints or the HD Spicers those axles usually come with?
i have a low pinion D30 in my truck (stock 00-01 XJ) it has yukon 4.88s a standard open carrier 5-297x u joints and the stock other bits an pieces including steering minus the steering box which is a F150 box. i have seen guys on here running TSL 36s on there HP axles which run the same everything for the most part.
end question is will it last till winter running pitbull rocker 37s? they weigh less than TSL 36s but are supposed to be grippier. i know i have to be very light on the skinny pedal.

Yes look at the pics.. I broke the inner axle in the splines, and broke the stub shaft off.
I was running the spicer 760x joints.. That tells me the d44 joints are stronger then the shafts
SO unless you do the 30 spline upgrade you are wasting your money on chromos in the d30. It took me 2 sets of shafts to figure that out. Luckily I had a d44 sitting behind the garage ready to be built
Thats is what I ended up doing.. but I ended up using reid knuckles, and waggy outers.. went with dutchman 6 lug axles for my 9"

the main thing is if you are not breaking shafts then the R&P is bigger on the D44. as here is what happens with a D30 R&P with 33's and stock (open) 3.07's

I have decided to jump to one tons or rockwells...the jeep will gain an 8.8 and some other goodies but the ranger is going to be huge
