i have a low pinion D30 in my truck (stock 00-01 XJ) it has yukon 4.88s a standard open carrier 5-297x u joints and the stock other bits an pieces including steering minus the steering box which is a F150 box. i have seen guys on here running TSL 36s on there HP axles which run the same everything for the most part.
end question is will it last till winter running pitbull rocker 37s? they weigh less than TSL 36s but are supposed to be grippier. i know i have to be very light on the skinny pedal.

UNless they are chromo shafts.. and 30 spline ones. I say you are on borrowed time.
I have broken YUkon chromo's on 35's, and Alloy Usa shafts on 33's. Both sets were 27 spline ones... needless to say I dont own a d30 anymore

it'll last till winter if you dont wheel. If you wheel I'd say find yourself a D44 soon. Borrowed time is an understatement for a LP D30. Even a HP D30 with Chromo shafts doesnt last too long with 37s.

Im runnin 36s TSLs on a dana30 HP and it hold up
for what its used for, but its really pushing it.
Make sure not to throw a locker in it also.
I think it also depends on what kind of wheeling you do...

I'm running a locker in my hp d30 and I've busted a few axle shaft u-joints. But that result was aways from cutting the wheel left or right and juicing it hard in 4L

You guys just answered all my questions about D30s. Now I'm reading that a D44 uses bacicaly the same shafts and U joints just a bigger R&P so is the cost of going to D44 worth it. I can get a D44 out of a Blazer but it would have to be norrowed and the pumkin is the wrong side (I Think) This is why I'm looking at Jappa Diffs

Well for the cost of a 44 I can get a 60 up here so I think I am going to go that route. Fords have a drivers side drop so other than narrowing it everything should be good to go driveshaft wise.

NO a d44 isnt the same as a d30. Yes the later d30 shafts can use a d44 style u-joint, but that doesnt equal the same strength.
First d44 have 30 spline shafts you can also upgrade the shafts to 33spline, or even 35 spline
Also the design of the knuckles makes it a lot stronger then a d30 unti bearing.
As for cost... I agree/ but disagree.
MY 73 hpd44 was free (come get rig out of farmers yard)
gears 210
install 110
arb 850
Nitro shafts 650
nitro 300m joints 250
reid knuckles 500
solid Hi-steer arms 300
waggy hubs and spindles 40 (cl)
Yeah for the money I spent building my axle I could have built a d60 if I had one... but the buy in price for a good hpd60 is right at 1k.. and the axle shafts are substantially more. Also would have to buy new knuckles cause the ford design is weak. Also since I had 6 lub Bead locks.. I would have had to buy either new rims, or different hubs.
If I had to do it again I would try to wait and find as many used parts as possible. I was in a time crunch so I just ordered everything at once. Just to see almost the same axle I built avaiable on pirate for 1500

that is WAAAAAAY more money than I would have to lay down for a Nissan Patrol front axle $350-500, and I wouldn't have to touch it except for a locker (Lockright $600) i ran 500whp in that green thing you see in My avitar and only ever broke 1 CV and that was in a comp and I was beating it something bad with 37" Boggers. They are tough. Cheers Leon (NZ)

, but it is stronger.
