Dana 30 front: Anything else come with LSD up front?
I am wondering if any other Jeep came with a LSD in a Dana 30 front axle? I am adding a LSD to my 8.25 when I rebuild it from a 2004 Dakota. Well I started thinking I should add a LSD to my front axle while I am servicing it for new u joints and checking the bearings. Now I am wondering if any factory applications had a LSD in the front that I can rob from? I know this seems like a dumb question but I really don't need a locker because my Jeep is mainly used for street duty 90% and light off road. So did any Dana 30's come with LSD from the factory?

By no means am I an expert on Cherokees, but I don't think so. The up-country package has a limited slip rear 8.25 and an open front 30. Not to long ago I put an Aussie locker in the front dana 30 and I can tell you for off roading that made a huge difference. I have a tight limited slip 8.25 which is ok for on road, but for off road I'm going to put a locker in or spool it (future upgrade). I would think Jeep didn't put limited slip in the front because of the resistance to turning that happens.

I figured XJ never came with LSD in the front but I was wondering if any grand Cherokees ,wranglers, etc had a Dana 30 with the LSD front axle.I guess I will have to see if Rubicons had Dana 30 fronts.

go with a selectable locker, i know you said you wont need a locker but if spending the money might as well get it done with

Yeah I'm trying to go cheep on add ons (my 1971 Superbee is getting the majority of my money lol). I found a site that shows Volvo's had a clutch type LSD that was a Dana 30 with the same spline count 27 if I am correct. I figure I would go out to my local u pull and pull one and compare the differences to see if it works. I figure for $25.00 what would be the harm getting one and checking it out?

For a couple of years the WJ came with some sort of traction assist differential in the front, look into the Overland models and such. But I have no idea how or what it was, could have been brake assit for all I know. But it may be worth looking into.

I don't know the setup of the 30 LSD but the 8.25 can be built very tight. There's a rebuild your 8.25 tutorial on the web that I've seen that shows you how to add discs to make your LSD almost spooled.
