Default D30 front axle shaft

Hello All!! I have a 1993 XJ Country that Im having problems identifing the axle shafts. We completly broke the u joint yokes on the axle and tail shaft of the passenger side. I got a spare but when I pulled the axle out of the jeep and compaired it to the spare not even close. The top one is the one that came out of the jeep. Shaft measures 1.34 OD. The lower one is the spare and its shaft is 1.21 OD. Also the yoke on the top one is splined and the lower one is just forged on the shaft.
So is the top a aftermarket upgradded one or am I not seeing something?

Thank you for and advise!!

You right, different forgings. If the splines match at both ends and length, you can use it

Thanks 4.3L XJ for the responce. Yes It will work but man I would like to know more on the bigger axle as i want to use that one. It has a spicer 5022 or 3022 stamping on the yoke. any idea what this might have came out of?

Sometime around 95 or 96 they started using larger shafts with bigger U joints.

Yes, same specs on OD measurements on the splines but they went to the 397X U joint

I am talking about the spline diameter. Are your splines bigger on the one you broke?

Thats what I thought...spoke to soon sorry. Yes spline count and spline dia. are the same. The differences are the axle diameters and one has a splined and pressed on u joint yoke and the other is just forged.

If you have a choice, of course go with a heavier axle shaft. The 87 and up XJs have the stronger shafts

The factory shafts in my '93 have the splined yoke with the beefier style shaft.

Hey Thanks kstopp! Is just weird that when you go to buy a 1993 axle it is the skinny shaft with the forged end. Wonder where you can purchase the splined yoke end?
