Default busted p*** side axle shaft

So when I replaced U joints in my D30, i accidentally bent the ears of the outer axle shaft on the right side. I put the new u joint in, but only 3 of the 4 points would go in because of the bent ear thing. Anyways, it's clunking after I did some pretty rough off roading the other day so i figure it's broken for good. Is it ok to just take the whole axle shaft out until I can replace it? I'll just be without 4wd, right?

thanks

I have been told that the bearings are not designed to run without the shaft and to bolt the outer shaft back in place

You'll lose oil out of the diff if you do that, and destroy the hub bearing too.

if you run without the axle shaft your wheel will fall off. The outer axle is what holds it all together. The bearing is just pressed together.

If you put the stub in the hub, it'll be fine. And you wont lose any oil unless your inner axle seals are shot.
