I have a 2001 Cherokee, and there were just a series of screws holding the fender flare on. Unscrewed those, and it came right off, the flare that is anyway. That gave me a little more clearance, but I had to do some cutting into the body in order to run 33's, and I did it with a cutting wheel, then smoothed the edges with a sanding wheel placed in a drill. Added a little primer, then some paint, and so far no rust in over a year.

When i took my flares off i ended up breaking just about every bolt holding them on . . made it realy easy to get them off but if your planning on remounting them after you trim i would soak them in pb blaster for a good week before

Are you just taking the flares off? or are you planning on trimming them? the flares are attached to 2 brackets that are bolted to the fender itself . . when you take them off itll leave a series of holes where they were mounted if that is what your talking about

I took mine off, cut the fender out, on the rear I went way past the pinch seam and just tack welded it closed...

then made some flares $15 flares like this

mine turned out like this
