Default Crown Vic or Explorer rear Disk on an XJ ??

I have a 95 XJ and want to do a Rear Disk Brake Conversion. What is the best set up Crown Vic, Explorer or ZJ , What is the Difference of the 3?

02,03 Liberty.

I believe the Crown vic and the Explorer fit the late 80's XJ with the Dana 44. In a 95 you probably have a 8.25 rear end, right?

The ZJ will fit on the 8.25 but you have to dremel out the hole a little bigger, not a big deal.

Got mine off a 97 ZJ. Opening he hole took a little bit to get it just right, but yea, wasn't a big deal. New rotors, new pads and the ZJs PV and you're good to go.

THIS
I used a 03 Liberty Renegade. Everything just bolted up. Well except the hard lines nuts are metric. I just cut them off and put in the imperial nuts and double flared the line. Added another 30 minutes to the job.
Now all the replacement parts are available.

PM Big David. Depends on which rear is in your XJ. The C8.25 on my '96 uses a mid 90's ZJ rear disc system.

35s and 8.25s are a super easy conversion.

Liberty you don't need to open up the center hole in the caliper mount. No big deal either way.

PM Big David here and make it easy on yourself.

I would suggest the Explorer brakes. With the 8.8 they come off of.

the liberty had the 8.25 too, so no need to mess with the bracket and dust shield in order to fit. (not that big of a deal anyway)

libertys are also more recent, so you might have more luck finding the dust shield in good shape on them. but my story with ZJ/KJ disc brakes is the opposite. i got the backing plates from a 04 liberty, but the dust shield were pretty rusty. i thought i could salvage them but just recently a ZJ just entered the junkyard with dust shields in awesome shape so i grabbed them. with a dremel you can easily widen the hole to fit on a 8.25. the different is small, maybe 1/8 to 3/16 narrower i'd say.

for the rest, i got all from the liberty. calipers, rotors, pads, parking brake, hardware kit, etc. the only thing i can't remember 100% is the brake line fittings. i'm getting all new brake lines so i bought exactly what was needed, but if i remember correctly the XJ fittings are something like 10mm while the liberty hose were 3/8 (or something along those lines)

If you get tired of researching and trying to find parts that no longer exist(spent weeks trying to find new Liberty brake parts and once all "kitted" together ended up being more expensive than the actual kit) check out BlackMagicBrakes.com. Blaine is a member over on Jeep forum; it's a bit pricey but works out of the box and everything is brand new. I believe it uses TJ parts. Price is a bit steep but the cheapest full kit I could find. Cheapest option would be to get an explorer axle with discs...If you're planning on upgrading in the future anyways and can find one close.

🤣 it's what I did several years ago and my 97 rear kit, that i bought from him, still works great, looks great and ill never look back. I just choose to buy new rotors and obviously pads. He supplied everything else needed. All this talk of look for this, buy that. Too much wasted time 🤣🤣😅😅😅

I will also vouch for Big David. Complete kit, low cost, and works like a dream.

I got the parts off of an 98 ZJ today. The e brake shoes were shot, so I will get new ones. Do I need the ABS brake SENSOR too?
