3"rnd hole saw on a good drill. It gets hot and is a little bit hard to start (at least mine was) but worked great! Install is a breeze. Just be expecting it to sound like a vacume at lower rps and a race car at high rpms inside the cab lol.

I'm debating on getting the spectre intake. I may just cheap out and get a piece of 3" pipe and run it straight over to where their intake terminates and put a filter on end. Just trying to find the right filter and see if I can find out the dimensions of the cowl in that area, so that I know what I'm working with.

the spectre was already pretty cheap if you hunt it out. i got it for like $140 with free shipping from summit racing.

Install was mad easy. 18volt hand drill (impact drill woulda been better), sharpie and that 3" hole saw(which i thought i could gank from someone but not one of anyone i knew had one...)

at first it was so GD loud i was concerned but obviously it's worked itself in and is now perfect. same time did new throttle body, injectors and full exhaust. my xj is one mean green machine...

overall love the spectre. highly reccomend over K&N

I'll emphasize the noise in your cabin after the install. May not bother you or most here, but I tried it on my '01 XJ for a couple months and just couldn't stand it. Guess I'm getting too old... and anytime I had anyone ride in my Jeep w/me the look on their face was something to behold when I started up my Jeep and drove to lunch, etc...

I ended up going back to Stock and plugging the hole in my Cowl and sold the Spectre. It's a good product and looks great, but be ready for the noise. Especially if you're running OE exhaust and mostly trail tires on your rig.

Mine's not that loud unless I stand on the gas hard, then the jaws drop open.

It is working phenomenally for 1999xj. I did it with a 62mm TB and it is awesome. Mustang injectors as well. Along with the cleanest the intake has ever been. I live in the high Rockies, air's thinner. & the spectre is the best $140 mod I've ever done.

There are TONS of DIY cowl intake threads on here! Just do a basic search and you'll find everything you'll need.

Ive had it on for a week and so far I love the thing. Man does it sound awesome at higher RPM's. Deff. a huge difference in throttle response in my opinion. I love the thing...

I'm getting mine with the next paycheck.

One question though. Has anyone here used the HO model on a renix engine? The renix model covers the oil filler and I don't particularly like that.
