Default Control arm question

Just bought a parts Jeep for the lift, wheels and tires, rear axle and whatever else I can find. This is all new to me so I'm learning. The control arms are 16" eye to eye is this a plus or not they do not look adjustable.

16" lower control arms are for a 2-3" lift.

That's what I thought but it looks to have a 4" plus lift on it.

Hard to tell the difference between 3 or 4" lift really, depending on the brand of lift they all sit a little different.

Regardless of whether it was lifted 12", those arms are spec'ed for a 2-3" lift. I believe the arms for a 4.5" lift would be about .5" longer.

I will be able to tell more about them after I take them off. Only a 1/2" longer for another 1.5" of lift? How long are they when considered to be a long arm?

Long arms are an entirely different setup. Better do a little searching and reading on that.

Yeah, .5" longer for the 4.5" lift. Its not a 1 to 1 relationship. As the axle moves down (as in a lift) the arms pivot it back, towards the cab. Slightly longer arms re-center it forward in the wheel wells.

i was looking on some sites at different lifts and none really specify the length of the control arms. however the long arm seem to have a slight bend in them, which mine do not. Also lifts from 2" to 3.5" seem to just come with lower control arms, 4.5" all come with upper and lower fixed ca's and the long arms are sold as long arms kits. probably doesnt matter just curious as to what i have, obviuosly not a long arm, just wish there was a way to tell how much it was going to lift my jeep.

I don't remember what the measurements are but between axle and frame to find lift.
Stock upper arms can be used up to 4.5" lift, longer lowers are used to only keep the castor/camber somewhat in check, they don't center the axle unless upper and lower are used to push it forward.

Long arms are generally used for there offroad capabilities, but appeal to the mall crawler guys for bling factor and the fact that it gives a smoother ride when lifted above 4.5", now this doesn't limit long arms to only 4.5"and above... But that's a different topic.
Hope i helped...
