Default Comanche dana 44 into my cherokee

Need to know if a Dana 44 out of a 1988 or 89 Comanche will work in a 1992 cherokee/xj I'am aware that the spring perch and shock mounts will have to be change but will my drive shaft still work and is there anything else that will need to be altered thanks

Depends on your current rear axle.

If you have a D35 you'll need a different driveshaft.

Got a Chrysler 8.25? You can use the existing shaft.

Make sure you use an Anti-Wrap Perch and raise your shock mounts for added clearance....you'll be glad you did.

I went from a 35 to a 44 in my 92 and didnt have to swap driveshafts. Because I was at 5.5" of lift, the slip yoke allowed for the extra pinion length.

i too used my stock shaft in my 90 when i put in an xj44 at 5.5 inches.
i did however swap out the slip yoke end for a yj end that had more u-joint clearance to reduce any vibes.

just measure from your t-case to the 44 pinion with all the weight on the ground, then try to match it up with an xj shaft from either a 5 speed with 8.25 or auto with 8.25.
there should be 4 different length shafts including 5 speed with d35 and auto/d35 also.
