Default Cold air intake. Questions

I have a 99 Cherokee 4.0 and I want to put a cold air intake on it. However I don't want to pay hundreds of dollars. What are the pieces I need to put my own together from the parts store.

Look on eBay. They sell basic intakes for cheap. I am assuming you just want an intake with an open filter. A true cold air intake would be mounted lower or in the cowel. That would cost a little more. Search homebrew cold air intakes on here. It's been done

I will admit I didn't search for long. That's my newbie mistake. Thanks for the info. I just got the jeep and saw all the cold air parts on the wall but had no clue where to start. I asked them to price a kit for me and the cheapest was 200 dollars

No problem, we all have done it. Just search around here and check out eBay.

Here's one of my next major projects. I get a true cold air intake and a snorkel all in one. And it looks alot cheaper than any other option.

I would like to see this method tested. The air box still has the opening in the front pulling in hot air and is low where in can suck in water. The PVC cowl mod is up high but the lower box opening is still there. Will it flow 'cold' cowl air into the airbox? Will it have a greater pressure differential and overcome the front opening air? Will it just act as a 'vent' and air actually flows backwards thru it? Put a temp probe and test if it is cooler or not. Just because it looks like is 'should' work, doesn't mean that it will actually function as you want it to. It might not be doing what you think it is.

you block off the front of the box, otherwise there would be no point.

ive been running this set up for 2 years and it works great. dont bother with pvc. you can buy intake tube and the conectors you need at auto zone for 25 bucks.

the cowl is where the heat/ac pulls air from as well so its designed to drain water away. meaning no water in the intake when it rains. ive tested with a garden hose and buckets of water. spectra now sells this set up as well

This is the setup I went with. $25 in parts and 30 minutes start to finish. Easy, cheap, and works.
