ok so i put my bumper back on my XJ and now that clunking only happens while at a stand still. My bumper is pretty heavy duty with a tire carrier, so it is obviously taking some weight off the front end . does this change your thinking at all??

Exactly what mine would do. Here is what you do. Look at the engine mount first of all. Mine you could clearly see it was bad. Have someone stand on the side of your jeep and watch that engine mount. Put your foot on the brake and ease into the throttle until you hear the noise. This is how we pin pointed my problem.

Not sure I remember that. But when you put your foot into it off the line and it like klunks that's what mine did. All I'm saying is just check it. It takes two minutes to check it. Mine you could clearly see,was bad.

I had the clunk in my steering. Tightened it down 1/16 of a turn on the box and the noise went away.

well possibly my first inclination was correct.....heard a very loud pop pulling into the drive last night....got to work this am and at lunch crawled under in preparation for the track bar swap and found axle fluid on my DS....and two caps missing from my new Spicer 760x u-joints. FML

dont know how it happened...but they must have popped off somehow!
