Clunking in rear.
91 jeep cherokee. ax15. dana 35 (4.10). I hit a dip in my street and now ive got a constant clunking coming from my rear right wheel. It seems most noticeable when i get off the gas. The clunking gets faster as speed increases. My best way of explaining the noise is that its similar to when you put a baseball card in the rear spokes of a bike. Only on a much larger scale. Thanks for your time.
Hard to say without hearing the noise, but I had a similar situation and possibly similar noise and found I had a blown shock. There's probably a bunch of different things it could be, but there's one simple suggestion to check for.

sounds like something driveline related.
this is on level ground that its making these noises. almost the sound of a flat tire is a pretty good description too. maybe a wheel bearing? it had some play side to side but didnt seem too serious.

X1,I just changed my u joints on the rear tonight and I still have a clunk,I know its not brakes or wheel bearings because I just did those to,gonna pop the diff cover off and look inside for a warped carrier or anything loose next.maybe just end play.So yeah check EVERYTHING

damn... sounds like alot of money and work. Any ideas on what would cause a warped carrier? The diff fluid level has been fine and both pinion seals were just done. This all seemed to happen after hitting a dip in pothole city.

I would jack up the jeep put it on jack stands and put it in gear. Use a long screw driver as a stethoscope to narrow down the location. While the tire is spinning see if it is a bent axel. Also you can stop one tire if you don't have a locker in the rear to make sure you have the right tire.
On my 2000 XJ I had the clicking like a card in the spokes but that was because of a very worn brake shoe and drum. I really let them go way beyond what I should have and then the clicking started. They were all replaced ( new drums) and no more clicking. I wasn't all the time and did click more the faster I went- some days it didn't do it at all.
You said you did your brakes-was the clicking there before the job ?

its a wheel bearing you probaly slammed it good enough to put a hard spot on ur race or you broke a cord in your tire.
a good way to test is to jack up the rear end and put it in gear and let the wheels spin if theres no noise its your tire if theres still noise its a wheel bearing or if you have a limited slip rear end there could be an issue with the clutch packs

its got a detroit locker in it. which is know to tear up dana 35s from what i heard. I really think that its a wheel bearing though too. Because the axles were rebuilt in 07.
