Plz plz plz check your engine mounts. Fought that stupid clunk for a year and didn't know what it was till I changed my engine. I'm 90% sure that's what it is. Oh and its prolly the drivers side.

I had the clunking issue at 4" like you described, the rear DS was too short (from an auto in a manual) and it destroyed my output bearing in the tcase. Another tcase with a SYE and its smooth like butter now. So yes you probably need a SYE

Also good idea to check your motor mounts

I bent up my exhaust real good after wheeling and had a clunk like described. It was even worse when reversing or switching to reverse lol

I'm also getting a couple clunks when first starting out but then it's gone and doesn't come back. Mine seems to come from the front passenger side. It doesn't always do it though. It's hit or miss. I have new axle u-joints. I'm also lifted 4" but I do have a tcase drop installed. I'm going to check my engine mounts I guess.

If you Flore it and it clunks but when you gradually accelerate and it doesn't, I'm saying for sure motor mounts. I broke mine just like you, right after my lift. I never checked cause I thought "oh I didn't mess with that, so why would it be broken"

The easiest way to see if a motor mount is broke is to hold the brake down while you hit the gas and watch your motor.

Could it possibly be the brakes? The reason I'm asking is that I got the clunk again this mornin and by just putting light pressure on the pedal stopped the noise. Once released, it returned. I know that occasionally I do get a clunk from the front brakes when stopping. I think it's due to the area where the rides on. It's pretty worn. I do have the shims in there though, but don't think it's enough.
