Just recently i purchased a 1989 chop top. at first i wasnt a fan at all, but am know learning to love it.
i am wondering what you guys would do if this was your rig? leave it? make some other roof like thing? redo the cage? Let me know i want to get some ideas going.
what i have in mind right now, is cutting the front hoop out of the cage and doing a hoop going perpendicular rather then parallel . just so the lines look better. i would make it go through the front of the dash and tie into the floor farther up. and while im at it id do some more supports, tie it into the floor in a couple more places, and make tube doors. then with the front peice in place i would get sheet aluminum or steel depending on the funds for a roof, mainly to protect me from the sun out in the desert and also to help so dust doesnt circulate in there and rather flow through.. and i would keep the cj 5 front windsheild so i can fold it down on the trails.
anyways.... let me know what you think

AND.... this picture is the only one i have right now with the front frame on.. but before the lift/paint.

I personaly would get/make a bikini top for shade, and a windshield. couldn't tell if there is glass in teh window frame you have or not. I think the front bars on the cage look funny because there is nothing to brake up the harsh angle like a windshield at an angle would.
I would alos put a limiting strap on the front other then the brake lines... they look tight, and the spring is getting close to the end of the bump stop...

Definitely redo the front cage bars and tube doors. Sorry, not diggin that cj windshield. I would just weld tabs on the cage for some plexi, but you said you wanted to fold it down.

I like the cage, looks like a '68 Bronco. The fold down windshield is cool/different,keep it-or do whatever the hell you want. It's your Jeep,YOU have to live with it not us.

They're saying put some tabs on the front frame for some plexi glass, that way you can just take it out whenever you want. I agree, the windsheild on there just doesn't quite fit.
Definitely reminds me of the early broncos too. Pretty awesome rig you got there.

dont use plexi glass for your windsheild, its not safe. it will shatter just like glass.
use lexan or polycarbonate.....dont scratch as easy, and both dont shatter.

lot of talk about raking the front down bars, but what if.....
would it be possible to undo the cage and turn it 180 degrees so the rear end in now the front "windshield" theres you rake right there, it would square up the rear end some.
Also trim the front end so the fenders angle in more (narrow the front end) lots of work but it looks sick!
