Chip/Power options??
I recently bought a 2001 Cherokee Sport. I love it so far, aside from the power. It's an automatic, so I wasn't expecting much, but even so I'm still a bit disappointed. When there is an kind of stiff wind I can barely keep 80. From what I've read, the JET doesn't seem to be the way to go. Does anyone know of any chips/power modules that will actually help improve speed and gas mileage? Or anything that will help, really. Doesn't have to be a chip.

That's weird my lifted jeep on 31s can go easily go 90mph (I wouldn't want to but it will). Is your jeep a 2.5 or 4.0? What gears?

Engine: 4.0, bolt ons for days...
since no one else asked... is it stock? header, exhaust, intake, bored TB, and new injectors are good for maybe 20- 30 crank HP. with an auto thatll probably translate to 10-15 at the wheels on a good day.
after that, either add forced induction, stroke it, or swap a V8. these motors dont respond well to mods.

A chip or tuner can do a lot in a modern engine because they was designed to be detuned for smog and insurance,Now the jeeps inline 6 is basicly a 60s tractor engine and already running about the best it can do and the tuning on the ecm is very limited at that.Like said a lot of bolt on stuff and up keep can bring up the power in it to a point.

What slant 6? This is not related to any Dodge engines.
The first AMC straight 6 came as the 3.2L OHV in 1956. A few years earlier the original design was a flathead 2.8L.
However the engine today was actually redesigned in the 60s and introduced in 1964 as the Typhoon (3.8L). 4.2L in 1971, 4.0L in 1987, and other minor variants in there. But the last 4.0L to roll off the line in 2006 is essentially the same as those in 1966. The water pump's been in the same location since 1958. Apparently yhe Gremlin got 30 MPG with the 232 ci in 1979!
The engines were actually sold to International Harvester.

If your looking for more power another member on here has a shot of nitrous and a supercharger on his Cherokee. Just be happy the 4.0 is good for 300k plus miles if taken care of.

had this thread in mind and I was easily doing 85 on the highway today with no performance mods, 32s and stock gears. Start with a tune up and go from there.
