Default Cherokee shackles hitting the unibody

I have a 3.5" full leaf pack rustys lift on my 2000 jeep cherokee. Over the weekend I was wheeling around with 3 guys in the back and when going bumps the shackle/rear leaf eye would smash into the unibody. I had never had that much weight in the rear and obviously the leafs compressed and pushed the shackle back causing it to make contact. Would a extended shackle fix this problem? Do I need boomerang shackles? Do I need a shackle relocation bracket? cut up the factory hanger so it clears? Any advice is appreciated.

I have the same springs and the same problem, you could bumpstop if you dont want lift or just get a longer shackle. If you get a longer shackle you should still bumpstop it anyway to save the springs from overload

Dont know the answers to all those questions, but I do know that if you buy shackle relocators the stock shackle will hit the sides of the relocation box while compressed. Unless you cut off all of the relocator's sides rearward of the shackle. First hand experience with RC relocators that I am currently running.

Will the extended shackle clear the shackle hanger?

I can't speak from experience but I'm sure it will, assuming you get a ~3 inch longer or 1.5 inch lift shackle

If you are getting shackles, get boomerangs. They will help your situation. You might not want all that extra lift from a 1.5 in shackle.

Even a one-inch lift shackle should cut it

a normal shackle will clear the body, because with the stock shackle the "eye" hits the body which is much larger than the legs of it.
A boomerang would be fine also, and would give you more clearance. Thats what I did. But a normal shackle will clear.

Any suggestions for a reasonably priced boomerang? I don't want lots of lift.

I just did a quick search and it looks like the shortest boomerang shackle will still give you 1in lift. So you might be in a pickle if you were not planning on lifting more. I wonder if you could just cut some of the body in the rear of the shackle. Actually I will go outside and check right now.

You could but I dont know how that would affect the unibody structurally, I've thought about it but decided not to

Rouch country makes a shackle relocation kit the moves your shackles and it has a bunch of diffent mounting locations and it prevents your shackle from hitting. Check it out on there website or youtube.

It looks like cutting about an inch upward of where the shackle hits should be ok. But thats just my opinion and I have no idea if its safe. There might be a reason nobody does that.
