Default Cherokee Diesel??!

I have an 88 Cherokee chief 4.0 high out put. I head there is a diesel Cherokee engine out there somewhere. Is it possible to swap? And if so how much would it cost and how much work is involved? Also I was wondering about supercharging this engine or even my gas engine? Where could I get a super charge and what is needed for install? Thanks!

Supercharging a diesel isnt really effective and supercharging a 4.0 isn't an cheap or easy task. Build a stroker, its cheaper and way easier to manage and get parts for

I wana stick with the inline 6. That's the whole reason I got a Jeep. Basically bullet proof.

I figured there was an inline 6 diesel. Why isn't an supercharger effective? Boost is always good right? Lol

If you want more power then stroke the 4.0. Gonna cost you some large dough.

Some XJ also came with a 2.5 4cylinder TD from VM Motori. Before I bought my 4.0 I saw a couple (relative common here). Asking about most of the comments were negatives. Here you can find diesel engines from the 60-70 working fine (forget about Euro * standards )

AFIAK Is a marine engine designed for boats and with good results as cab or car engine, not for an off-road use. It offers about 118HP@4000RPM and 221lb/ft @2000RPM.

Just my .02.

Super charging a diesel not effective? You've never seen a sc 5.9 cummins. You get boost at idle and if you run a large turbo under that like a s480 you get low end and high end power

In the States, all we ever got for a diesel engine was the Renault 2.1. Very rare.

I meant to say efficient lol I have seen plenty of old 2 stroke diesels with an s/c and a turbo. A s/c has a parasitic draw so by itself its not as efficent as a turbo. But when used for compounding with a turbo can make some serious power.

The diesel used to cost half the price of gas so that kind of engines were very common. However I don't remember to have seen any 2.1.

The 2.5TD are difficult to mantain due to lack of parts.
