Default Cheaper to make or buy?

Would it be cheaper to have an exhaust shop make the tail pipe from the muffler back (including the axle bend and hangers) or would it be better to just buy a pre-made set up online?

Id say just go to a muffler shop. I have a sweet maxi that charges basically nothing for labor when it comes to exhaust work. On another note I cut off my muffler and just left the cat on for the time being till I get time to weld my new one on. I expected it to sound god awful, its honestly not bad.. Little louder than I like but overall has a nice rumble.

That's what I am thinking. I am just hesitant on having work done by anyone but me due to recent bad experiences.

I say it depends on what you want. If you just want something that sounds better get a good muffler like magnaflow. But if you want more performance buy a cat back with a 2 1/2 or 3" tailpipe. I got lucky and found one in the pick a part with a magnaflow muffler and a 2 1/2 tailpipe. I like the sound some rumble but not to loud

I already have a descent muffler on it, the problem is that the previous owner tacked the upper bend to the unibody and when I took it down it busted a hole in the pipe. I just need the tail pipe.

Speaking as the Tech/mechanic in those situations, people that do that are the most hated individuals on the planet next to the engineers that design Cadillacs and Lincolns lol. If you can't trust the Tech working on your car/truck enough to let them do their job without standing over them questioning them about everything they're doing, you might wanna find a different shop.

When I changed the exhaust on my XJ I just got a factory replacement tail pipe from Napa and it was only like $25-30 normal cost iirc, being I'm a Tech for a living as mentioned above I got it at cost which was like $17.

unfortunately you work in a field that is more known for ripping people off than helping them. I was recently quoted 900 for labor to have the manifolds changed on my truck and was told it would take there tech 10-14hours. I took it to another shop, that charged me 260 and only took them half a day.

The tail pipes are cheap as dirt. Summit sells them for $13. I just ordered one late Wed night and it got here today.

The tailpipe never changed through the years. The only difference in the years after the manifold is a second o2 sensor.
