As others have said, either buy a meter... i wouldnt trust that it would hold its tune from one to another, there are too many variables that i would think could change it.
or have someone peak and tune your radio, or just upgrade your radio to a cobra 29 or something similar that has a built in SWR meter...
I love my 29!

That might be helpful. I've got a good radio, and a good antenna, I just want it to work. I live in Montana and I don't necessarily like being out on 90 without a way to communicate. Thanks for the help guys!

And yeah not straying too far off topic, but the main reason I did go to a 29, got it brand new for 75 with ship, and built in meter. My thought waas, why buy a 40 dollar radio and a 40 dollar meter? Get a much nicer radio with one built in.

From what I've read and been told a built in swr meter is good for reference after tuning with an external swr meter. They aren't as accurate. But none the less a cobra 29 is a fantastic radio!

Good info, learn something new everyday, thanks! I do have mine tuned down to around one across the channels, a little higher on one end. When I tuned mine with the adjustable tip on my firestik, I forgot to tighten it and the thing tuned out real fast and my antenna light came on on the radio. Another good self monitoring feature of it.

Well, unfortunately, not one of the 3 truckstops in town has a radio shop. The comm shop 45 miles away will do it for 85/hour. Or...I'll just buy the meter for 40 and figure it out by my damn self. Crazy...Thanks for the info guys.
