Default CB Install help?

Installing my CB into my 97 XJ and I was curious if anyone has seen or can help with a write from install to Tuning? I do NOT have an SWR meter, so the redneck version would be helpful.
I bought the power cord from the SHACK and was curious if anyone had some help to offer?
TIA
Scott

Not much to write up man.

Red goes to positive, black goes to negative. Screw the bracket down wherever you want the CB and screw the antenna on.

There is no "redneck" tuning method. Either you have an SWR meter or you don't tune it.

Thought so, but didn't want to be "that" guy.
Thanks

i had a question before about tuning my cb after install, all you need to do is find another person with a cb and just talk back and forth until it sounds right no need to buy a meter

Do not take this advice!

Properly tuning your cb with an swr meter is crucial! You can end up frying your cb if not properly tuned.

There is tons of information on the internet on cb installs. id share the links but I'm not at my computer right now. google search

Also, if you haven't tuned the radio I wouldn't even key up the mic. Very bad things can happen.

So, here's the deal. I had this radio in my other XJ. Sold the XJ, kept the radio. It should still be tuned yes? I just installed it into my NEW XJ. No harm no foul right?

If you have the exact same body style, mounted in the exact same location with the exact same wires and exact same antenna, it would probably be pretty close.

That's what I figured. Mr.White, thank you.
I will see if I can locate a truck stop around here to tune it properly. Nothing will be exactly the same from rig to rig, but it's in and hot, so....We'll see what happens. Thanks all for all the advice gentlemen.

Radioshack sells, er they did sell anyway, SWRs for cheap. I have one. Don't know if they still do or not. I went in there recently and it seems like mostly cell phones. :|

Radio shack does still sell SWR meters but for $40. Its a good meter though not all Radio Shack locations have cb equipment on the shelf.

There are about 6 radio shack stores near my area and only two have radios, antennas, mounts, coax, etc etc. I actually prefer truck stops, Pilot is my go to now for most cb accessories.

Ahhh sucks man. Even I have two near by in so cali but I'm in the desert of the 10fwy.

I randomly found a cb tuning shop not too far away while listening to the truckers. Looked it up in my garmin nuvi and stopped in. for $35 the guy tuned my cobra 25 up to 27 watts output. SWR at about 1.5 on all channels. I'm now getting 10 mile range in the city with my wilson 5/8 wave length 4' antenna.
