Default Catalytic Converter "Exhaust Reducer" problem?! help

Hey, I'm new to these forums but have had my 1989 Jeep Cherokee 2 Door 4.0L for about 3 years now. It has around 160,000 miles and runs strong. I recently got back from school to learn that it failed emissions. My dad being a Jeep guru told me we would have to replace the Catalytic converter most likely because it failed for Nitrous output. Me and him always work together when putting parts in. We got it completely stock and have lifted it...ect. He has a project he is working on and did not need this CC so I got it. I recently bought a brand new exhaust from summit racing and found out that the exhaust reducer was clearly off. I am not sure as to how this is suppose to be done so I have taken quite a few pictures. I know that the reducer that it came with was definitely not the right fit. By the way my dad is sick so this is why I need this help. I went to napa auto parts to get a reducer and they gave me the opposite of what I asked. I got a 2.5" ID X 2" OD Reducer instead of 2.5" OD X 2" ID Reducer. Me not really knowing what I am doing thought it was correct and it might be I am not sure. The original part has it the other way and is the way I asked for it to be but they mixed it up. Here are the photos of the complete system.

Ok. As you can see they do not slide into each other. I guess the real question is would I have to find a different reducer, or weld together which I have no access too.

any comments appreciated.

You'll have to get a new reducer or weld it. I dont really think there is any other choice.

If you were to take it to a local shop I'm sure it wouldn't cost very much to just weld up.
I'm so glad we don't do emissions in Texas!! Haha

Actually it looks like you could just flip the reducer around?

That's what I thought. I know bringing it to a shop would be way too $$$ and I can't do that. So do I have the right size reducer is it just that they mixed up the OD and ID dimensions

I got a 2.5" ID X 2" OD Reducer instead of 2.5" OD X 2" ID Reducer

Yes I am taking it back! so the right one is this one 2.5" OD X 2" ID Reducer then the parts should slide in nicely and clamp to secure?

EXHAUST READING
Intermediate Pipe Diameter (in)
2.250 in.Tailpipe Diameter (in)
2.250 in.
Catalytic Converter READING

Outlet Diameter (in)
2.000 in.

Once again this is the exhaust for my 1989 Cherokee that I grabbed from summit racing CLICK HERE
and then this is the CC that I was given. CLICK HERE

I am just double checking!!!!

Thanks a lot... emissions and hot sweltering phoenix air my favorite.

If I'm not mistaken yes. If it happens to be too big on either side what you can do is cut a small slit in the reducer on whichever side is too big then go to a hard wear store and get that size clamp and put a clamp on it tight and that will hold it. I had to do that to mine a long time ago.

Ok, when I find a ride i'm going to get the right reducer. NOW THIS PROBLEM!

Phew.. Just removed exhaust and old CC. 1 of the bolts connecting the CC was a stud with a nut welded to it. so I sasawed it off and yanked away at the other bolts turns out that I now have this problem.

FRONT VIEW

BEHIND VIEW

seems like everything that was suppose to just be screwed off was welded on to prevent this old CC from never being removed. From what I heard is that California CC are very expensive and this could of been a precaution to prevent stealing. I don't live in California but that is where this Jeep came from.

I guess I will have to drill it out???

the other one is in perfect condition.
