I have been thinking of cutting my cat off and welding a 2.25" inch pipe on instead of where my cat would be to get a solid seal since my mechanic half ***'d it and im leaking fumes out the space between my muffler and cat.
What would be the possible benefits or pro's/cons of no cat? The cops are real slack on the exhaust laws here in VT so im not worried about their trouble if i do decide to take it off.
Any input,Advice or Helpful tips would be appreciated!

With that being said, Ide recommend getting a high-flow spun cat. They aren't that expensive, still meet legal requirements and flow very well. Better to be safe than sorry! There is a good vendor on here... mudfrog is his name. Great service/selection.

I second the 2.5" spun cat offered by the vendor mudfrog. I got mine for like less than $40. Good quality. I advise welding it. I had to clamp. Looking to redo my exhaust with proper welding.
I have the spun cat, Flowmaster Super 44 combo. LOVE IT.
Keep 'er legal

Better keep the cat and forget the "Flowcrapper", save your money and just buy a house brand loud muffler of some kind. Your paying for a name first of all and what little performance you "Might Get" would be very small to nothing with the 4.0.

Yup definitely get it welded... It shouldn't cost much. I think I paid 150 to get everything welded up/custom down pipe and everything inbetween made. I also have a Super 44/High flow cat. Mine is all 3" though and sounds very similar to the Bradleys we had in the Army haha.

I agree with your sentiment but it's one of the rules on this forum whether it makes sense to everyone or not... Every forum that I've ever been on has at least one thing that is taboo. This has been this forums for awhile now. It's not worth getting riled up about... I would rather gain the knowledge available here than get booted for discussing something that is pretty self explanatory anyway.

The same gain you'll get with a high flow unit. While being legal. Also, I think 1.5 is an overstatement unless it is clogged. The stock cat flows adequately for cruising rpm, which is also the prime mpg rpm.

Because most of those are county rules which means it varies. removing cat is federal meaning EVERYWHERE.
