Can I swap 89 XJ Dana 35 with 87 MJ Dana 35??
I recently purchased an 89 XJ in good shape, but the previous owner has Lincoln locked the dana 35 in the rear (so the axles, carrier, and housing would all need to be replaced, at the minimum).
Yesterday on Craigslist, I found a dana 35 housing, axle shafts, and carrer out of an 87 MJ that are in great shape and are priced well. They are both non C-clip and have the same dimensions based on information that I have found online. However, I am worried that certain things may not line up right such as the leaf spring mounts.
If anyone has any info on this particular subject, any information would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

You will have to change the spring perches as the mj is spring under and the xj is spring over. And as long as the gears are the same should work. But a better option is find a 8.8 Ford axle if you swap an axle

Its not a bolt in swap. The perches are spaced different between the XJ and MJ, and the MJ is spring under where the XJ is spring over. Not worth the effort imo, to still have a D35 in it. I'd look for an 8.25 if you want a bolt in axle, or an 8.8 if you're willing to do a little work.

If it's welded all you have to swap is the carrier. Unless the the person who welded it was an idiot and welded the axles to the carrier as well.
