Although not recommend and whether you guys agree or not it can be done and has been done. Case in point my friends 88' Renix with a recent 304 V8 conversion. This is only temporary but he was having issues clearing the exhaust on the right side. Temporary solution was to remove the right upper control arm until his new long arm kit could be installed. He has been driving the XJ for 4 weeks now with no issues at all. Just road driving and he is a professional mechanic but it can be done if needed for road driving but if you do it be cautious and driving carefully.

take it for a cruze down the street first, if it feels okay, then you should be fine. but i wouldnt do it anymore that i have too.. i drove to work 30mins one way for a week missing a piston with a golf ball sized hole in the motor, irrelevant, but i did it.

That is a radius arm setup. A three link is three independent control arms with a panhard for lateral centering of the axle. It is exactly a 4 link minus one arm lol

If I was forced to run with only one upper arm, I would keep the left one in place. The upper arm mount on the left side of the axle is stronger.

AFAIK no radius kit with 3 links, or an actual 3-link kit uses the factory mount points. Only using 3 factory mount points could be an area of concern.
