I'm upgrading a 27 spline housing to 29 spline axles and need the axles.
I know I can pull some at a JY but I may find it more convenient to buy new. If I do, I see:
1) Alloy USA 21118 4140 shafts
2) Yukon YA C52098902 1541H shafts
3) OEM shafts that don't cost less the the above
I'll be locked on 33s.

Unless you are doing a gear change, it'd be cheaper & easier just to swap the entire rear housing with axle shafts already installed.
29 spline shafts are physically bigger & will not go into the 27 spline's carrier.

I am running 33's, locked, 27 spline with an AX-15 and I run it pretty hard with little concern, but I'm not beating on the thing either. you will also need a new carrier and spider gears to I believe. You will have to make sure your settings are all correct as far as back lash concerns go when you reinstall the carrier. basically, it seemed like way too much money and time and that's why I am still running a 27 spline haha. oh and if you have a 27 spline locker, you will need a new one of those too

Oh and you have the alloy stuff wrong. Its funny how many people think and even some advertise the alloyusa stuff as chromoly for the C8.25. They are only 1541H.

From their (Alloy USA, not a retailer) website:
http://www.alloyusa.com/rear-axle-sh...usa-21118.html
"Alloy USA uses high strength 4140 Chromoly in all its Jeep axles Our axles are heat-treated twice and induction hardened to produce these heavy-duty axles that are up to 35% stronger than stock 1040 axles."

It is easy to see why they think that....

This is been discussed many times. They use their typical 4140 discription on many shafts that are Not 4130. But since there is so many different dept's and people that know nothing about what they are buying over seas, it got lost in the translation.
BUT those of us that have called and talked to the "right" people or the previous Owner of AlloyUSA, as well as had ties to a company that did testing, came to the conclusion its a misprint.
Just like it saying (and I see you conveniently stopped your quote short), and I quote "Our shafts are covered by an exclusive 10-year warranty! Rear axle shaft kits include everything you need for your installation: both passenger and drive side shafts, seals, bearings and wheel studs. and wheel studs."
Yeah a single axle comes with both sides and all related parts. Umm hum...
But those that know better corrected their listing when it was brought to their attention.
