Harder to scratch too.
Op its all about what you need it for. Looks? Whatever the hell you want. Durability? Powder-coat or bedliner. (Harder to touch up) Cheap and easy to touch up is generally the way to go. Pick your favorite flavor of spray, prep well and have at it.
(rustoleum semi-gloss came out pretty good on my stock bumper. Its not very durable on the plastic end caps though. Ill post a pic tomorrow.)

I did my Nates4x4 front winch bumper in Rustoleum Hammered. It came out very well and holds up great. Mine's due for a touch-up now. How it comes out is 99% prep. I used self-etching primer, about 3 coats, and then 3 or 4 coats of the Rustoleum. I went through 3 cans, IIRC.

It's like a gunmetal color...I wouldn't call it grey. It's not 100% black as others have stated. If you want it to be 100% black, you'll want to pick another paint.

As almost everyone has stated the options are endless its all on your taste however I would definitely suggest using an automotive grade self etching primer on any raw metal I myself only use POR 15 but every company makes similar products goes on nice and easy and protects against rust
